Printing bar codes, batch codes and best before dates on flexible packages is normally an integrated part of the assembly line process. The thermal transfer printer is part of the assembly machine and prints directly onto the substrate, typically a bag or some other type of container. A good example of this application is the printing of bar codes for pre-packaged hardware components like nuts, bolts, screws, etc. Wax ribbons are commonly used in this application, and do not have to be specially designed for this operation.
